Over the past seven days, thousands of climate action advocates \u2013 businesses, Green Building Councils, communities, NGOs and individuals \u2013 joined together to celebrate the power of green buildings during\u00a0World Green Building Week 2017<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The week, which ended yesterday, highlighted the need for net zero carbon buildings under the banner of\u00a0#OurHeroIsZero<\/a>. And there were plenty of heroes, with people hosting and attending nearly 250 events and activities listed on our\u00a0Hero Action Map<\/a>, and many more taking place around the world.<\/p>\n

With such an eventful week, there were lots of highlights (too many to mention individually). But here are just a few\u2026<\/p>\n

Our\u00a0Thunderclap campaign<\/a>\u00a0kick starting the week reached over 2.6 million people on social media, and millions more were reached throughout the week.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of people adapted and posed with the Our Hero Is Zero sign, showing what they wanted from their buildings. Check them out on\u00a0Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

WorldGBC gained media coverage in a number of media outlets, including\u00a0Triple Pundit<\/a>,\u00a0Devex<\/a>, and\u00a0GreenBiz<\/a>, and major organisations like\u00a0UN Environment<\/a>\u00a0helped to champion the week.<\/p>\n

Our staff blogged about\u00a0the heroes of the green building movement<\/a>, and a\u00a0special visit to a school<\/a>\u00a0to educate the next generation of green builders.<\/p>\n

We announced that\u00a0four new Green Buildings Councils have joined<\/a>\u00a0our global Advancing Net Zero project.<\/p>\n

Green Building Councils from our membership engaged heavily in the week, with\u00a0Emirates GBC publishing a report<\/a>\u00a0on nearly zero energy buildings (nZEBs); the\u00a0Irish GBC launched a report<\/a>\u00a0on Irish construction professionals\u2019 energy efficiency knowledge and upskilling needs;\u00a0USGBC talked about<\/a>\u00a0the alignment of their platform Arc and net zero carbon buildings;\u00a0New Zealand GBC offered a great account<\/a>\u00a0of what it\u2019s like to live in a green building; and\u00a0Alliance HQE-France GBC secured<\/a>\u00a0French Environment Minister\u00a0Nicolas Hulot\u00a0as a Patron for the week in France.<\/p>\n

Our corporate partners also back the week.\u00a0JPMorgan Chase hosted a kick-off event<\/a>\u00a0in New York on the bank\u2019s new net zero strategy;\u00a0Philips lighting unveiled new research<\/a>\u00a0showing that businesses could collectively save up to $1.5tn through efficient use of office space;\u00a0Shaw Contract published<\/a>\u00a0its latest sustainability report;\u00a0ROCKWOOL talked about<\/a>\u00a0how it is using innovation to achieve net zero buildings;\u00a0Integral Group hosted<\/a>\u00a0introductory webinars on net zero buildings with WorldGBC;\u00a0AkzoNobel released a series of blog posts<\/a>\u00a0on green buildings; and\u00a0Saint-Gobain launched a new educational video<\/a>\u00a0on green buildings.<\/p>\n

Major European institutions the European Commission and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development\u00a0(EBRD) used the week to promote\u00a0the launch of green building tool Level(s)<\/a>\u00a0and the release of\u00a0publications on green building investment<\/a>\u00a0respectively. WorldGBC staff in Europe also\u00a0blogged about the potential of Level(s)<\/a>\u00a0and how\u00a0EBRD can benefit the work of Green Building Councils<\/a>\u00a0in Europe.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of corporate members of Green Building Councils also took part in the week, with UKGBC member\u00a0EVORA publishing a series of blogs<\/a>\u00a0throughout the week, and\u00a0Cundall holding 20 \u2018net positive\u2019 events<\/a>\u00a0around the world.<\/p>\n
