On 19 March, the European Commission launched the first edition of RESponsible island prize competition, funded under Horizon 2020, the EU’s research and innovation programme.
This prize will award islands with innovative and sustainable local renewable energy production for use in electricity, heating, cooling and transport. The three winners will receive a cash prize of EUR 500 000, EUR 250 000 and EUR 100 000 respectively.
The contest is open to islands located within the territory of an EU Member State (including Overseas Countries and Territories linked to them) or countries associated to Horizon 2020 and to any legal entity or group of legal entities representing the respective island.
The deadline for applications is 26 September 2019.
